Why El Salvador

In 1977 I began an adventure to a foreign country with the Peace Corps. I knew very little about the country and had to look it up on a map! I liked the job offered as a business advisor to agricultural cooperatives. Little did I know that this would put me in the middle of the east/west conflict over control of vulnerable populations. It has been an interesting journey. I have stayed connected to El Salvador through my many friends and the struggles they faced during the civil war. I have been fortunate enough to help others get involved there and if we fast forward to 2019 when I retired and met some incredible Rotarians (having been a Rotarian myself off and on since 1981) that the fun has begun. Rotary has built two water projects in communities I have now known for many years. I have taken three small groups of US Rotarians to El Salvador to see the projects and engage with some of the poorest communities. The local Rotarians from the Rotary Club of Santa Tecla not only do fabulous work in the communities, they have also been amazing hosts for our trips.

They also have  Solar Panels to give three light bulbs, two outlets, and a battery pack.

Lunch in the community of El Rodeo,  Rotary built their water system.
